Freyja's chariot by WoodWose Freyja's chariot by WoodWose
My patron goddess in her chariot. At first I tried drawing two huge lynx drawing it, then decided that two huge 'domestic' cats would be better.

I really like this -- I had been searching for an image of Freyja and her cats that actually looked Norse and spotted this.

The cats are perfect, they look so much better that size. Good work!

This is making me imagine my two kitties hitched up to a little wooden chariot. They're both blue and white tabbies, but one is about ten pounds and the other twenty-two or so. The smaller would be actively wriggling to get out, the larger would be giving us a betrayed look of "Why? Why do you hate us so?"

Therefore, behold the power of Freya, who can not only herd but drive cats.

I can still remember, many years ago now, when my cat was still a kitten, my late waife decided she would buy a cat-harness and take Merlin for a walk. All Merlinever did in such a harness was lie perfectly still on his side until the harness was removed.

Heh. Here in Portland I've seen a few of the deliberately semi-homeless punks with young kittens on leashes that they've trained to have stand on their (the humans';) shoulders while they walk around. I have got to find out their secret. Not that our 7-year-old, 22-pound Sun Ce could do that at this point, but still, it'd be neat to teach a kitten that.

That's so awesome! You know, I never pictured her cats as giant, which really makes a lot more sense. O.o I love this.

I read once, somewhere, that her cats were named Treeguld and Byguld (Amber and Honey), but I think that it was a work of fiction and not historical.

Thanks so much. One of the cats being called amber makes sense, it's said when she wept her tears would become gold when they hit the land, and amber when they hit the sea. This is how the Norse peoples explained the large amounds of amber found around the Baltic coast.

Magnificent. The regalness and majesty is sublime. I'm sure she is honored.
